Removable and Functional Appliances
Removable and Functional appliances such as a Bionator, Activator, Twin Block, and Fraenkel are used for the improvement of severe bite issues in young patients, usually as a first phase of a Comprehensive Orthodontic Treatment. These devices can either be made from separate upper and lower parts, which interlock placing the lower jaw in a different position or can be made of one piece.
Removable appliances such as a “plate” are used to improve the alignment of a couple of teeth or to expand an upper jaw.
Removable appliances are generally less precise and effective as compared to fixed appliances. The success of a treatment with removable appliances is dependent on the daily wearing and the growth patter/growth amount. Alternative devices and treatments are available and may include full fixed braces in combination with headgear, perhaps teeth extractions, or in severe cases, a jaw surgery when growth has finished.
*WARNING: Any dental or surgical procedure carries risks which also may depend on your general health. This will be discussed with you prior to any dental intervention.
Before proceeding you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner such as your dentist or your doctor.
